So I can't say Gavin will never be sold but it will take an awful lot of money to prise him away from this football club." so does that mean a bid of £450,000 would buy williams !? heard it all before at our club.......

As Jim's said, every player has his price. If he goes, so be it. I would imagine that Williams is valued at around 800,000+ if we could get that for him, theres plenty of decent midfielders about to buy

I read this morning that they'd also accept decent offers for Alan Lee.
My dad's got the paper, so I can't say what at the moment...

TBH Lee has too many barren spells in front of goal for my liking. OK he's scored more this season than last, BUT he's not scored in open play for ages. I really don't count penalties as 'true' goals anyway. So last proper goals were against ummm....Luton? And that was in October.
SO if we do get a good offer for him, let him go. Jim seems to be a good wheeler dealer anyway, I trust him

I don't know who'd actually want him to be honest!

Nah me either, must be someone mad enough. But fair play to him, on his day he is a handful, just he's not had many days recently

yeah ! i think lee sees himself as an old fashioned forward that harrys players and will score 15 ish a season, if it goes well which is roughly what he has done this season hang onto haynes / clarke and next season we could really take off i really feel IF we keep this squad together, and add 2 it, we SHOULD be a match for most clubs

Here's what's going on. Jim Magilton has said he'll listen to offers for Gavin Williams and Alan Lee because they went on that Amsterdam trip. It's a bit like Sir Alex Ferguson did with Beckham - a player is proving too much of a problem to discipline and control, so he'd rather they were out of the dressing room. Trouble is, it's often your best players!! Thing is, Gavin Williams would probably be priced at £500,000 but he says he doesn't really want to go, and even though there are rumours that clubs are interested in Alan Lee... in all honesty, who is going to buy him?! We'll price him stupidly because it seems that's how strikers are being valued this January, and remembering what he was like at Cardiff, no-one's going to pay more than £300,000 for him. I'm confident they'll both stay, but it's hard to know where we'll get the money for a striker from...

I don't think it PLAYS like it's one of the best, but it could be. To me, it's arguably a deeper midfield than the one we had when we were happily trotting off to the top of the table in 2004/05. Our defence is probably about the same, if not slightly better. HOWEVER - the absence of two 20-goal-a-season strikers is our downfall. Lee might get up to about 18 this season, but Clarke's gone quiet, Haynes can't score unless it's against Norwich, Bowditch... less said about him, the better... so until we bring in someone to put another 18 in, we won't stand a chance. It's also a case of finding someone who hits form just at the right time. Put it this way - in 2004/05, whenever Bent was out of form, Kuqi was in form. Whenever Kuqi was out of form, Bent was in form. The difficulty came when Kuqi was injured just as Bent was out of form. As a result, we couldn't score for shite regardless of how devastating we'd been all season, lost 3 games on the trot and threw promotion out the window (which I STILL feel bitter about... )

(Still bitter? You're not alone. However I can't see Alan Pardew without feeling the urge to pick up my cricket bat and run after him... Bit like my feelings towards Adam Gilchrist, but that's another story... )

If Charlton come down it'll be like watching a reserve team game! You've said what I wanted to say, so I can't really say anything without repeating... All I have to say on the striker front: Get one that can actually jump...

Love it. Ah, that classic interview. I remember it well. Too well. Far too well - I remember it word for word from a certain point...
KEEGAN "...few days, some... some of it almost slanderous, and... er... we've never commented. We've just gone on... workin'... tr-trying to pass the ball like we do in training..."
INTERVIEWER "W-w-what do you mean by that, do you mean people have been having a go at you and your team?"
KEEGAN "...n-no, no, I think things have been said about... I think you've gotta send Alex Ferguson a tape of this game, haven't ya?.... Isn't that what he asked for?"
ANDY GRAY "...well I tell ya t... tonight, Kevin, ya can have no complaints about the way Leeds went about their business...."
KEEGAN "AY! AY!! And... we're playing Notts Forest on Thursday... and he objected to THAT!! Now, that was fixed up four months ago, we were supposed to play Notts Forest. I mean that sort of stuff, that's... we're bet... we're bigger than that!"
INTERVIEWER "...but that's part of the psychological battle, isn't it, Kevin?"
KEEGAN "NO!! WHEN YOU DO THINGS LIKE THAT ABOUT FOOTBALLERS LIKE HE SAID ABOUT LEEDS.... AND WHEN YOU SAY THINGS LIKE THAT ABOUT A MAN LIKE STUART PEARCE... I-I-I TELL YA, I'VE KEPT REALLY QUIET, BUT I TELL YA SOMETHIN', HE WENT DOWN IN MY ESTIMATION WHEN HE SAID THAT. WE HAVE NOT RESORTED TO THAT. BUT I TELL YA, YOU CAN TELL HIM NOW IF HE'S WATCHIN - WE'RE STILL FIGHTIN' FOR THIS TITLE, AND HE'S STILL GOTTA GO TO MIDDLESBROUGH AND GET SOMETHIN'... AN-AN-AND I TELL YA, HONESTLY, I WILL LOVE IT IF WE BEAT THEM! LOVE IT!"
Don't ask how I remember all that...
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
POINTLESS!! LOL!

I think that first sentence was something like "some things have been said over the last few days", but the clip I remember it from was cut off at the start!
