Three stories this week - Darren Ambrose is once again being linked with a return to Portman Road, though any move looks unlikely with the player currently in the Charlton first team and Town not in desperate need of more midfielders. Far more likely is Newcastle's David Edgar, a Canada U20 team-mate and very good friend of Jaime Peters, who Town are reported to be interested in bringing in on loan according to Edgar's agent. Forest Green Rovers striker Stuart Fleetwood has also been linked after Ipswich sent a scout to their recent 0-0 draw at Stevenage, though Fleetwood is not thought to have impressed the Town representative.

Despite suggestions from Harry Redknapp earlier in the month that David Nugent would be going nowhere, Jim Magilton has confirmed that he has made a loan enquiry about the Portsmouth striker. The Ipswich boss has also confirmed that he is interested in bringing in a defender on loan, though David Edgar is thought to be too inexperienced to suit requirements.

I won't update the front page with it tonight, but it seems that Harry Redknapp is happy to let David Nugent join Town on loan provided that:
A. Town pay a loan fee (...er... how does that work, exactly?...) B. It's what David Nugent wants
Apart from the minor problem that Nugent has picked up another short-term injury, it looks like Town could land the striker after all.

Honestly not sure what to make of the whole Nugent thing.
On one hand, I think he's a complete dick. On the other, he's a good striker in this division...

To an extent, I'm inclined to agree - I personally think Bywater's a dick; he absolutely clattered Matty Fryatt when I went to Leicester's 1-0 defeat at Derby in 2006, and no-one needs reminding of the stupid incident between him and Alex Bruce in our 2-1 win at Portman Road last year. Doesn't mean I'm not happy to see him playing for us these days though, provided his behaviour doesn't work to the detriment of the team. Same applied to Ricardo Fuller - I absolutely hated him at Preston (in the same way that I currently hate David Nugent) particularly because of his scoring record against us, but I was pleased to see him in blue and white even if it was only for a couple of loan games before he got himself sent off against Palace. In any case, Nugent's injury has put a spanner in the works regarding this potential deal, though I still think it looks likely.

He's done alright so far though, although has a worrying tendancy to punch, rather than catch... I just dislike Nugent because of the incident with Sito, and then to rub it in at the fact he didn't get sent off, celebrated in front of the North Stand, twice. I hold a grudge like hell, so it'll take some convincing to make me like him. But that's my personal opinion, your views are entirely different, I'm sure. But yeah, I can accept he's a useful player. I just think he's a complete cock. Lol. However, it'd be nice to see him scoring for us, not against us for a change. As long as he doesn't do what Fuller did...

I'm very very pleased about this news, actually. I was just in the middle of writing another article for TWTD when I read it, so including that news certainly strengthened my argument that we were looking good for a promotion charge this season! He'll join once his injury clears up, which will probably be later this week. Town are paying an undisclosed loan fee for his services, so let's hope he lives up to the hype. I never thought I'd say this, but come on, Nugent!!! ;D ;D Lol!

For the moment, I've changed David Nugent's rumour mill status to "active progress" rather than "successful signing" - The deal still isn't done as Nugent is thought to be waiting until he is at 100%. The problem with this delay, aside from Town not having him available for earlier games, is that Stoke are reported to be ready to come in and scupper the deal. With this in mind, one is somewhat cautious to assume that he is on his way to Portman Road. Magilton has given Nugent a deadline of Friday this week to make up his mind, otherwise he will look elsewhere - David Healy is widely suggested as a possible backup.

With this in mind, one is somewhat cautious to assume that he is on his way to Portman Road. Glad I did change it now. The Nugent deal is dead, and it was an absolute farce too. The impression given out by the majority of sources suggests that not only was Nugent's lack of fitness a major problem, but that Magilton had gotten particularly pissed off with the Portsmouth striker's failure to even get in touch with him about it. From what I gather, it's not the first time Nugent has passed up a potentially career-boosting move by simply not even bothering to respond to calls - seems he did the same to Sunderland last year, at which time he failed to respond to Roy Keane for 5 weeks. It appears the guy really is as much of a twat as his on-field demeanour has suggested. With that in mind, I don't blame Magilton for, in Green'Un's words, basically telling him to "sod off". Clearly he's suffering from the same compulsion as Richard Wright in preferring to sit on a Premiership bench rather than play for a Championship club week in week out, and with that in mind, it's highly unlikely he'd ever have given 100%. I therefore back Magilton's decision, as do a multitude of Town (and indeed other clubs') fans. Here's my only problem with Magilton's decision - the backup plan. It's all very well and good telling Nugent to bugger off at the very least as a matter of principle, but a good and immediate backup plan was required. Reports suggest that Jim will get on the phone to Fulham today to ask about bringing in David Healy, but it certainly doesn't feel like there's anything really properly lined up that might be completed by Town's next game. We'll have to see anyway. On another note, Magilton is also reported to be close to bringing in an unknown Premiership defender on loan.

On another note, Magilton is also reported to be close to bringing in an unknown Premiership defender on loan. Any more news on this NCA? Little of any substance, I'm afraid. As far as Premiership defenders go, there has been very little in the way of rumours anywhere. Further down, only Sheffield Wednesday left-back Tommy Spurr has been mentioned, but Magilton has denied any interest in him. We also don't seem any closer to landing a striking target - after David Nugent's move collapsed, Roy Hodgson came out and said that Town's second-choice David Healy would not be leaving Fulham. Another striker, Swansea's Jason Scotland, was linked over the weekend but Magilton denied any interest - besides, Scotland hardly fits the bill of experienced Premiership striker. Robbie Earnshaw, Kenny Miller and Danny Webber are still among the main candidates according to many sources, but there's been little to suggest any activitiy regarding any of these targets up to now. All a bit quiet, I'm afraid...

Tut - I'm getting more and more lazy with this as the season wears on! Lol!
Well, as everyone knows by now, Shefki Kuqi has made a return to Ipswich on loan, however, it's highly likely that his spell is already over. Undoubtedly popular though questionable in terms of his ability in the current squad, Kuqi made his second debut as a Town player only to be struck down with what is probably a torn hamstring and probably be out for a while, in which case Town are back where they started and poor old Shefki misses out on a wonderful opportunity. As Magilton said yesterday, "it can be a cruel game sometimes".
Obviously it's not a foregone conclusion yet, so no new strikers are being linked. Regarding Premiership defensive loan targets however, Fulham's Dejan Stefanovic is being heavily linked wih a move, possibly as early as the beginning of next week.
