Football fan jailed over assault
A Leicester City football fan who assaulted train passengers when they asked him to tone down his language has been jailed for five months.
Craig Haldane, 43, of Woodleigh Place, Corby, Northants, pleaded guilty to actual bodily harm and common assault.
A couple from Leicester, aged 60 and 68, were attacked by Haldane as he returned from a football match on a St Pancras to Sheffield train in March.
Corby Magistrates banned Haldane from Leicester City's matches for six years.
The Leicester City supporter was returning from an away game with Crystal Palace and was in a group of Sheffield Wednesday and Leicester City supporters travelling in one of the coaches at about 2025 GMT on Saturday, 10 March.
The group were singing and shouting and the 60-year-old woman asked Haldane if he and the group would mind their language.
Haldane then became aggressive and abusive towards her, and when her 68-year-old husband protested, he was punched in the head several times.
It left him severely bruised and his hearing aid was damaged.
Other passengers then pulled Haldane away from the couple.
The assault was captured on CCTV footage which was used by British Transport Police.
Following the sentencing, Det Sgt Bill Henry, of British Transport Police, said: "What I'm happy about is that as a police service we obtained the best possible evidence that we could, we presented it to the court and that's given them the opportunity to impose the sentence that they feel is appropriate."
GOOD, HOPE HE GETS BUMMED SENSELESS IN PRISON - ASSAULTING 2 PENSIONERS....REAL TOUGH GUY EH??
