...to give him his full name. What kind of appointment is this? It's not exactly a bloody revolution - it's a like for like substitution - much too softly softly, and he looks like a fisherman (no offence to you anglers). Don't get me wrong, I will eat my words if things turn around on the pitch, but considering how long Kelly's sacking has been in the offing, this is something of an anti-climax as appointments go, even if only temporary at this stage. I'd have welcomed Chris Coleman with open arms. ![>:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/angry.png)

I don't know where I stand at the minute, I just hope Milan is using this as a way of biding time and looking for a realistic long-term solution at the end of the season, rather than panicking and offering someone a long-term contract now. To be honest, I didn't think we'd get someone of such 'high-profile' for a season which has only 5 games left, so in that aspect I'm relatively pleased. But as you say, it's like for like as far as I can see, another manager who wouldn't say boo to a goose, and who won't give the players the kick up their arses that they evidently need. I just hope that he won't be hailed a 'saviour' should we stay up, any manager's honeymoon period usually involves picking up a few points here and there, so I think we may have done that with anybody new in charge. I also hope that if he manages to keep us up he won't automatically be given the job next season, we made that mistake last time with giving Rob Kelly the job after the magic he worked. I trust Milan to take this club forward, and what he had to say for himself today only made me hold him in even higher esteem, I just hope he does the right thing, and makes some sensible decisions in the summer.

Well indeed - I trust the big man, but what more could Worthington do to be offered a permanent position than win the remaining games? As you say, I see another Kelly situation coming on. Is this really the man we want in the driving seat to spend the fruits of the Mandaric takeover?!

Well indeed - I trust the big man, but what more could Worthington do to be offered a permanent position than win the remaining games? As you say, I see another Kelly situation coming on. Is this really the man we want in the driving seat to spend the fruits of the Mandaric takeover?! What surprised me was that this was a very unlike-Mandaric type of move really, the idea of Worthington is not only massively underwhelming but also totally unimaginative. I hope when Milan says he has learnt a few things from Pompey it has taken away his maverick approach. You're right, all Worthington can do is win his remaining games and I can't help but think he'll be offered the job. After all, he's stated he's turned down two championship clubs this season (most likely Barnsley and Luton) so why would he go somewhere for only 5 games? My guess is that Milan has given him a benchmark of x points, and should he reach that target he'll be offered the job. The least we can do though is give Worthington a chance, I'm fed up of all the negativity surrounding the club at the minute and am just glad to see the end of the Kelly era. Even if I'm not entirely happy with the new appointment, I'm sure as hell glad it means not having to sit through any more performances by a Rob Kelly team and his post match interviews 'they're all smashing lads, we are where we are, it wasn't down to a lack of effort, the fans were great, we'll be redoubling our efforts on Monday, individual errors cost us blah blah blah.'

Can't disagree with u LeicesterLass - Kelly was like a broken record. It's just not a big enough change for me - I think many of these players need to have a good hard look at themselves and be asked whether they want to be there next season.
I have to say, it took me by surprise as well. When Mandaric turned up, I knew Kelly's days were numbered, but my rationale was that Milan is rather Hollywood and Kelly just wasn't charismatic enough - well they don't come more dull than Mr Worthington so I guess I was totally wrong there!
Of course if nothing else, perhaps the effect of trying to impress a new manager, whoever he is, will give the players enough of a boost to keep us up, but Milan must know it would be short-sighted to keep him on on that basis.

Agree with every last word. I just hope Worthington will be here for the remaining 5 games only. If we want to get to the Premiership we need someone with, drive, ambition and enthusiasm - and someone who can instill hunger into the players as well. Although he has experience of promotion in this league, I just don't think he's the way forward.

Might just be worth going to the Norwich game now mind! Certainly wouldn't have done with the promise of more dullness after the Plymouth game. BTW anyone else notice the striking similarity to lib dem MP Lembit Opik??? ![](http://img476.imageshack.us/img476/4350/lembitiw9.jpg) Spooky...

What you are forgetting is Nigel worthington got Norwich out of this league, playing good attractive football - something you have been moaning about the lack of this season! Give him 5 games, see how he does - if he's shit then get Chris Coleman in the summer! I reckon you'll get Gary McAllister anyway - just a hunch! ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

Well wasn't really expecting that today.
Kelly out - Nice guy, but it had to happen. Kept us up last year, full credit over that. But since, we've gone backwards. Yes the takeover can't have been good to work under but you just have to work through these things and cope. Too many games this season, we just haven't shown up and lost miserably. Plymouth was just the last of a long line of them. The players are unfit, unmotivated, tactics are poor, too many sloppy goals conceded, we don't score many and play boring football. All of these things have got progressively worse over the season so he just had to go. He also has done precious little to incorporate the youth who are doing well for the academy for underperformers in the first team. Kelly targeted 16 points from the last 16 games - a very poor total and completely unambitious. Unfortuantely, it seems he was struggling to meet even this so Mandaric had no choice - even at this stage of the season.
Worthy in - Look, he is here for 5 games. Who really does anyone expect to attract for such a short period of time, absolutely no guarantee of a long term job and a very tough job. I think most people would struggle to get our bunch of crap, half-witted wasters playing well over such a short time. Just get behind him for the last 5 games and see how he does. He must know that Mandaric probably will look elsewhere in the summer. I think he is a good shout in such a situation - and like Gres said, Norwich seem(ed) to play some attractive stuff!
Players - Can hold their heads in shame. They caused this, its not all Kelly's fault. All but a few aren't fit to wear the shirt and ther poor levels of commitment have led to this. Yes they're not very good and haven't been coached very well, but they are not as bad as they have been regularly this season.

Never liked him even before I became an Ipswich fan - first time I saw him was when Birmingham played Norwich in the playoff final in... I think it was 2002... and because I wanted Birmingham to go up and thought that Worthington was a dull bastard compared to Steve Bruce, for those reasons I already didn't like Norwich! Lol! I'll grant you, LL, Roberts had a good time at Leicester, but seeing as I wasn't into football back in the early-mid nineties, he'll always be Norwich to me! ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) And Martin O'Neill at Norwich doesn't count, because: A. I don't care who managers used to play for - let's face it, Joe Royle enjoyed himself at Norwich, but I loved him while he was at Ipswich! B. He wasn't manager at Norwich for long enough for me to care. C. To me, Martin O'Neill only means Leicester and Celtic (not even Villa! Lol!) D.
