Statement from the Foxes Trust: We have no official news of this story. We are aware that the club have been examining a variety of options of getting additional investment & seemed fairly convinced it would be achieved. From our contacts within the Trust movement though we know MM is very good at playing the media game, so if he was to launch a bid releasing "information" via the "popular press" in advance would be his style. Well it says in the article that a bid was imminent rather than had been made already. Looking good that Mandaric hasn't come out denying any of it or playing the rumours down which he has done when speculation has escalated previously! *yet!* Perhaps he was at the Villa match, probably sold it for him!!

Leicester Mercury 30 Oct 06: A bidding war is set to be launched between millionaire businessman Milan Mandaric and a number of American companies who want to take over Leicester City. The cash-strapped club is set to listen to offers from interested parties later this week. Former Portsmouth chairman Mandaric is expected to launch a £25 million bid for the Foxes. But he is said to be among several interested parties who want to take control of the club. Other bidders are understood to involve some American concerns similar to the Glazer family, who bought Manchester United, and Aston Villa's new owner, Randy Lerner. City today confirmed that Mandaric, a Serbian-American businessman who has been linked with City ever since he severed ties with Portsmouth earlier this season, is the front-runner. His bid is expected in the next few days. If City accept his offer they will ease their financial difficulties at a stroke. A statement from the club said: "We can confirm that the club has been actively looking at methods of generating new investment into the football club. "Discussions have been held with a number of interested parties and the board is considering a number of options. The club will communicate further with shareholders, supporters and staff as soon as is practicably possible." The suggested bid of about £25 million would be enough to clear the club's debt, restore the ownership of the Walkers Stadium and leave enough money for a transfer fund for new players. Mandaric is credited with restoring Portsmouth's fortunes and, while his dream of a new Fratton Park stadium never materialised under his reign, the Walkers Stadium means he will not have to crusade for a new ground. He made his fortune from a string of businesses in America and Croatia. He has previously owned Belgian club Standard Liege and French outfit Nice. He took over at Portsmouth in 1998, and his cash laid the groundwork for the struggling Division One side to be transformed into a Premiership club. Since leaving Portsmouth he has been continually linked with Leicester. He recently said the challenge of steering another Championship club to the top flight was "appealing". Earlier this month, City announced the club made a £1.6 million profit last season, compared to a loss of £3.5 million the year before. Club bosses said the figures highlighted the fact the club had tightened its belt since it collapsed in 2002, owing £50 million. The fan-base and modern stadium help to make the club appealing to potential investors. Leicester City Supporters' club chairman Cliff Ginetta said: "I think that as long as the board and the shareholders are happy with the deal the fans will certainly welcome it. "We need someone with money to invest - that's been the only thing holding us back. The fans have been talking about this for a long time and I think most would welcome Mandaric." _____________________________ WOooooo we'er at the centre of a bidding war, how exciting!!!

Milan Mandaric is leading the race to become Leicester City's new owner, and could be in place as soon as this weeked if he can close a deal for the club in the next 72 hours.
The former Portsmouth chairman, who sold his stake in the south coast club last month, is likely to formalise a £25m offer for the Foxes in the next three days. The Serbian businessman has arrived at the negotiating table ahead of his rivals, believed to be based in America, and is keen to maintain his involvement in football.
For their part, Leicester have complied with the terms of their administration after they collapsed owing more than £50m three years ago.
The current board, eager for new investment, have been listening to offers since the summer.
Mandaric has been seeking a new challenge in the game since handing over control of Pompey to Russian Alexandre Gaydamak.
He had previously been interested in taking over at Ipswich Town. However, that deal stalled and he has switched his attention to the east Midlands' club.
Any potential offer is likely to include £15m to buy back the freehold of the Walkers Stadium from its' American owners Teachers, who currently lease the ground back to the Foxes.
The remainder of the money will be used to purchase the club and strengthen the team during the coming six months.
The position of manager Rob Kelly, who has shown considerable promise working with a limited budget, is expected to be unaffected if Mandaric takes over.
A statement released by Leicester read: "We can confirm that the club has been actively looking at methods of generating new investment.
"Discussions have been held with a number of interested parties, and the board is currently considering a variety of options. "The club will communicate further with shareholders, supporters and staff as soon as is practicably possible."

At least three other companies are competing with Milan Mandaric for the ownership of Leicester City, it emerged today.
As City prepared for tonight's crucial Championship clash at home to Stoke, it was revealed that a company based in theMidlands, aswell as two American businesses, have held talks with the club about a possible takeover.
Manager Robert Kelly, however, insisted the off-field activities would not distract City from the business of acquiring three points.
He said: "You can let it distract you or you don't, and we are away from it so it will not affect us."
Mandaric is due to table a £25million bid for cash-strapped City either today or tomorrow. And that size of investment will catapult City back into the Premiership, according to Gary Silke, editor of Fox Fanzine.
"That's the sort of finances we would need," he said.
After Mandaric tables his bid, the three other businesses could make rival swoops in thenext few weeks.
It is not known whether the Midlands company is based in Leicestershire, but it is understood they are one of at least four businesses, including Mandaric's, who the club has spoken to.
All four have discussed both buying the club outright, and the investment of a significant sum of money.
Any other bid would be discussed by the City board, who would decide whether to back it. If they did, the club's 47 share holders would then vote on the offer, either at a special meeting or through a postal ballot. A sale could then go through.
If this approach was unsuccessful a would-be buyer could also buyout individual shareholders and build up a stake in the club.
A75.1 per cent stake in most companies gives a shareholder total control, while a 90 per cent stake would be enough to force remaining shareholders to sell their stake.
Patric Phelan, a director of the Leicester office of accountants Vantis, which has experience of dealing with football clubs, said the board were unlikely to decide on whether to back Mandaric's bid for sometime, allowing other offers to be tabled. Each bid would be looked at equally.
"What you have to remember is that the board's primary responsibility is to act in the best interests of the shareholders, not the fans," he said.
Football finance expert Prof Tom Cannon, of Kingston Business School, Surrey, said recent ownership deals involving football clubs gave City a value of up to £10m.
"There's no logical way of putting a value on a football club," he said. "But the lower the purchase price, the better for the club because, in theory, what remains can be invested in it."
