After a solid start and nosebleeds all round we face a stern test this week at home to Southampton. I have predicted a draw but feel i have gone with my heart and not my head. Our one saving grace is we have no 'big name' players in our squad with reputations which makes us a tight knit workmanlike outfit. Ritchie has worked wonders on a tight budget and we have earned the right to play in this league.
p.s. Rich its a shame you are not making the long journey this weekend as I could have taken you for a few 'scoops' pre-match. And we could have talked bollox!

MATCH REPORT:
A slightly disappointing 11,300 fans with around 1,000 making the long journey north.
Barnsley had the better of the first half with 'exciting prospect' Gareth Bale awol on the left hand side of the Saints defence. Barnsley winger Devaney exploiting all this room to cause the Saints plenty of problems and Barnsley were rewarded in first half stoppage time with a goal from Richards from Devaneys cross.
Burley rang the changes at half-time with Bale and Dyer being replaced by Makin and Scakel and the latter immediately forced a corner from which Rasiak pounced from 15 yards.
Southampton had the better of the second period and forced a number of free-kicks around the box. But with Bale being substituted all these came to nothing. southampton looked the most likely until a rare foray up field resulted in Barnsley being awarded a penalty for a rather dubious hand-ball offence which Hayes duly dis-patched.
2-1 became 2-2 within 2 mins when the refereee decided to even things up with another dubious hand-ball this time in favour of the visitors. Rasiak again doing the honours.
On the 90mins a fair result.

I was there . Bale didn't get 'hacked out of the game'. Burley took him off because he kept on going walkabout.

I couldnt get radio solent in the end as they had not got internet rights. so ended up listening to burnley local.
and the commentators described how he had been taken out by the barnsley player.
he was off the pitch for five mins getting treatment. and was thought he might get substituted there and then, but they waited till half time.

But Bale was moving freely enough after treatment.

after the treatment, but who is to say they had to take him off for a precaution...
and listening to the pro barnsley broadcast, devlaney was lucky to stay on the pitch, as they said he was starting to lose his head in the 2nd half.

Must agree. Devaney did get involved in a couple of tasty challenges in the second half as well.

i must admit that is one thing saints lacked, which was bite, they had some slick moves, but no final ball, but no real bite in the challenge..
i am sure burley will sort this.

To be honest roo. I expected them to be better after holding the Baggies. BWP disappointed.
Maybe you had some key players missing?
We certainly had 10 of our first choice 11 on at the start.

We certainly had 10 of our first choice 11 on at the start. there is a few injuries, plus you need time for the team to gell, burley who is new at the job, has hit the ground running, and really to have a side which is in contention in the league is an achievement, considering all the shyte in the boardroom. i think after a month or two when they have played a few games together, we should be the slick team which will be back in the premiership next season, it has helped with us having a training game midweek against Yeovil ;D {carling cup}
