Don't do many of these so hope you enjoy.
Saturday morning came & I woke up early.
Had a trip down to catch the bus to the train station, as I was waiting, a car with two Watford went past & beeped their horn.
Got in the station and bought my tickets. Walked over the bridge to get to the platform I needed to be on, and sure enough, there were the Watford lads that went past me.
Fairly uneventful train journey...spent most of it chatting to the two lads I met.
Meet up with my mates outside Villa Park about 3.00, and we decide to head off to find a pub. Come across a place called the Adventures but decide to look elsewhere, then we find the aston social members club where its full of Watford, had to pay 2 quid each to get in but was a good atmosphere. Chatted with fellow fans, watched the grand national and enjoyed hearing the scum lost, meaning they are basically down bar a HUGE miracle, even if we did a Roma and were four down at half time this left a smile on my face ;D
...
5.00 and several beers later, we decide to make the trip to the ground. Met up with a few old faces & enjoyed a brief chat. As me & my mate we just about to go up the steps to the ground I noticed John Barnes try and slip out of the VIP bit un noticed, some guy shouts "Barnesy!", and within seconds he's surrounded. Managed to make my mate take a picture though
I was sitting in the Lower Holte End, not bad seats at all to be fair.
Game got going and the atmos was electric, bar 4 guys in front who were giving me & my mate evils & some boring people who seemed happy to sit and clap on occasions.
Then Rooney scored, and the 4 guys in front celebrated. This was met with plenty of abuse by not only me & my mate but a hell of a lot of other fans, someone tried getting the stewards but the ruck had already started.
Eventually the stewards got involved and sorted it out by ejecting them.
Game ended, & I was happy I went, despite the scoreline which did flatter them. The team did us proud, and its also good to see Marlon back!
Probably the biggest challenge of the day was getting out of there.
There was a huge queue for the train from the station I arrived, so we decided to walk to the main one, the copper we asked said it was a 15-20 minute walk max. Half hour later and we were beginning to get dubious. 15 minutes later and we were pissed off.
I ended up missing my train, which was the last one going back to Oxford. I checked for any coached or buses but no luck. I didn't even want to think about staying the night in Birmingham
Eventually I found out I could get a train to Banbury which is about a 45 min drive from where I live, luckily my mate agreed to pick me up. So I got to Banbury for 11.20 and my mate was there.
Made it home for midnight and shared a quick beer with my friend before he left. All in all a great day out, but a tiring one for me!
Oh also and me & my friend managed to 'accuire' a flag each before kick off
