Watford boss Adrian Boothroyd is set to make a January transfer move for West Ham striker Carlton Cole, according to reports.
Cole has only just joined West Ham after moving from Chelsea in the summer for an undisclosed fee but his hopes of regular first team football at Upton Park already look a little forlorn. The 22-year-old has been kept out of the Hammers first team by the form of Bobby Zamora and, with Dean Ashton set to return from injury plus the late and unexpected arrival of Argentine star Carlos Tevez, his first team chances look slim.
Boothroyd will keep an eye on the situation and if things have got no better for Cole come January, he could make his move then.

Well seeing as Cole isn't getting any playing time at WHU it might be what we need but just on loan.
With Kings injury that leaves Forsell(still nowhere what he was) * hornychihuahua thinks the Viking is set to return(would fit the bill nicely on Youngs crosses when hes on song). This definitely means with funds stretched we wont be ab le to take a punt on a youngster like Sharp or Fryatt for instance.
Wouldnt mind seeing Billy Jones arrive as a fullback as hes not signing with Crewe. Hopefully Jordan Parkes keeps progressing as he is & Robbo mark 2 will be uo & running for next season.
Doyley keeps getting caught under the ball ballwatching leaking space & generally being bailed out by Fozzie & co. At least Stewart credit to him has been improving bit by bit.

We need someone, and either Cole/Forssell would be welcome additions to the squad.
These rumours of HH coming back appear week after week, but with horny now going along with it, it may bear some truth....
My cousin went to the Oxford - Aldershot game at the weekend and told me he was impressed with Aldershot's #23, I asked him his name and he said....
Joel Grant.
I know you were dubios about him going on loan to a Conference team Ovechkin8, but he does seem to be doing well and hopefully it will be beneficial for him.
And here is my bit of media bs for the thread:
Gunners target swoop Mon, Nov 06 2006 11:17
Watford are facing a battle to keep young striker Ashley Young at the club as Arsenal are said to be ready to make a move. Young has been a star of the show for Watford this season and that has caused a number of clubs to sit up and take notice and it is his versatility which has apparently caught the eye of Arsene Wenger as he can play upfront or on the wing. Watford boss Adrian Boothroyd is keen to keep hold of Young and will be confident of doing so in January especially if the club look to have a chance of winning their battle with the drop. Boothroyd could face a bigger challenge next summer as the suitors line up for the England Under 21 star.
Meanwhile Watford have been linked with a move for Middlesbrough's former Arsenal hero Ray Parlour who has yet to make an appearance for them this season.
With Parlour likely to be available for a nominal fee, a deal could well be on the cards when the transfer window re-opens at the turn of the year.
Pure lazy journalism!!

Its inevitable every 'top' team will be chasing him conisdering his performances. For most of the summer it was Tottenham & now its the Woolwich. AY isnt going anywhere certainly for now. His kid brother apparently is jst as good as him too (hes in the juniors). As for Parlour I dont think AB will be spending any money to line Mrs.Parlour or whatever she calls herself now pockets. Nice to hear Grants doing well .But it would be better still to see him in a higher level of competition as that will improve him more rapidly. Bit unfortunate I feel. Looked totally unfazed in the Championship but lacking some physicality & stamina at times. Hope he makes the squad for next season. Our retention of promising youth or helping them push on beyond the final stage hasn.t been that great compared to the likes say of Luton(I daresay it) or Ipswich for example. It would be nice to get Gary Johnson back.He did really well for the junior sides & Gibbo(thats a pipe dream sadly).

AIDY BOOTHROYD has revised his number of transfer targets following the "appalling" display against Sheffield United on Tuesday night. But the Watford boss will not be making a move for Ade Akinbiyi or David Healy in the January transfer window. Boothroyd admits he now "possibly needs more" than the three players - two strikers and a central defender - he had initially earmarked to bring to Vicarage Road at the start of next month. However, Akinbiyi, the out of favour Sheffield United forward, and Healy, the prolific Northern Ireland striker at Leeds, are not among his targets. "Ade is not a player I will be bringing in," said Boothroyd. "We need to get some strikers in as Darius Henderson is up there on his own and Young is playing out of position. "David is OK," he added on the striker he worked with during his time at Elland Road. "He's a great lad and has got a terrific international scoring record and I think he'll want to be playing at the highest level he can, because he is not getting any younger. I like David and I know him well of course, but that doesn't mean to say he's top of the list. He's not really on the list." www.edgwaretimes.co.uk/sport/sportroundup/display.php?artid=1053297&FROMPAPER=watfordobserver.co.uk

All these rumours are interesting (as well as borderline psychotic - see Heskey above) but the one thing they seem to miss is that Watford need at least two forwards. Hendo is a nice chap but not really any good - be honest. Out of all these, the only realistic rumours for forwards seem to be an unknown Hungarioan (another one!!) and Daid Healy who can't score at weekends but isd OK for internationals. Isn't that a cause for concern?

Any news on Edwards for this transfer window? The local rag highlighted a few weeks ago the fact that you were interested in summer and said you "might follow up" on your interest in the Januray window - lazy journalism or what? A couple of million would see us okay, if ya wanna pass that on to Betty

We are in disussions and I believe are on the verge of brokering a deal worth a king size mars bar, its only being held up after Carlos wanted a Twix aswell.

2M is far too much NB. Even though you;ve been ripped off for Upson Howard etc etc time immemorial a fee of 600K + apps. would be reasonable. CE would make a good wing back for us.Perhaps you could have Doyley in part exchange ?

No he can do the job there & pose more of a threat than Doyley. 90% of his crosses wither find no one or the oppo. And he can defend. He played a similar postion for T&T v SwedenEngland & Paraguay & was pretty effective.

Dont bother with Carlton Cole. We were linked with him in the summer and I was glad he did not come. Hardly played for Chelsea and cant get look in at West Ham there must be a reason for this. I think you would be better off nabbing a championship striker that plays regularly.

Hi Arnie.
Tbh, I wouldn't mind him, he'd be a more useful target man than Hendo... But I don't think theres much chance of him coming to us anymore anyway.

Well if you can get them cheap it is worth taking risks. Maybe we have been lucky but our entire team has been built on cheap risks and freebies. All of our strikers were nabbed from lower leagues - Kitson £100k Cambridge United, Doyle £70k Cork City, Lita £1m Bristol City, Long freebie with Doyle Cork City, Seol £1.2m Wolves.
They are there and knowing what Boothroyd is like they will get plenty of motivation.
