It's going to be a very interesting season. If the ones that come down remain strong they will be up there. Also those like Leicester and Posh who have the momentum and confidence. If we don't strengthen we could be in real trouble next season.

If we split the League into 4 sections...
a) Automatic promotion race b) Tophalf/Play-off contenders c) Mid table d) Relegation battle
I'd fancy it to go this way...
A
Newcastle Albion *Reading Boro Sheffield United
B
Cardiff Preston Ipswich Swansea Derby QPR
C
Peterborough Leicester Coventry Forest Crystal Palace Watford Sheffield Wednesday
D
Blackpool Donny Bristol City Barnsley Plymouth Scunny
And I don't think I'm being harsh on Bristol City there. Also Peterborough I think, may finish top half, but I'll go section C to be safe. Since Rodgers came in we've proven we can maintain the form you need to be playoff challengers...
Massively dependent on the ins and outs over the summer though.
*Reading need to appoint the right manager though (not Rodgers!), otherwise I can see them going into freefall.
All these clubs should stop chasing the dream, appoint a manager and stick with them, regardless of relegation or mid table mediocrity. Spending wads of cash does not get you out of this division, but may very well destroy your club. especially if you're a club that still has players on premership wages.

Roy Keane to walk out by September! You think that late in the season?

I think Plymouth are going down next season. Newcastle to win league. I think Middlesboro will struggle because all the expensive nobodies will leave and they'll bring in slightly less expensive nobodies.

Roy Keane to walk out by September! You think that late in the season? He's just had a Suffolk Punch foal named after him, that should make him stick around for a bit.

i seriously doubt we'll be challenging next year (depends who the manager is...) and i'm not sure about Newcastle either, it depends if Ashley will bankroll them.

I think Middlesboro will struggle because all the expensive nobodies will leave and they'll bring in slightly less expensive nobodies. I agree Boro will struggle but with parachute payments, it'd be a really poor effort were they to go down. I can see them the top half of lower mid-table if that makes sense. Blackpool and Plymouth I fancy to go down.

I think Derby, Ipswich, West Brom and Leicester will do well.
Not sure about Newcastle. I have a feeling they may struggle for the first part of the season. They will be a prized scalp and their players may find the championship to be a bit of a culture shock. A period of adjustment might be required. Playing them early in the season could yield three points that might be a lot harder to come by later, once they've acclimatised.

I don't see why people are tipping Newcastle to do so well. Of their annual £100m income, £70m is going on wages at the moment, and they're easily going to lose £30m just through TV money next season. They're going to have to have a massive clearout and rebuild, and it'd take a great manager to immediately start getting results after that anyway, never mind with the expectation the fans will place on the club and the big scalp they'll provide to other clubs. I just don't think Shearer's gonna have the nous to do that in his first full season.
They'd be better off taking a season or two to consolidate and build; get the fans' expectations to a more managable level, set a more realistic wage structure, and push for a solid squad and continuity.
