BBC finally updated...
Brighton and Hove Albion FC has been given the go-ahead to build a multi-million pound 22,000 seater stadium in Falmer. Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government Hazel Blears gave the project planning approval on Tuesday.
The League One side, who currently play at the Withdean Stadium, have been without a permanent home since 1997.
And in 2005 it thought it had won its battle to build the arena, but an error led to the decision being quashed.
The planning application for a new ground on land north of Village Way, in Falmer, has been through two public inquiries.
It was opposed by some residents, the parish council, Lewes council and conservation groups because of its proximity to the South Downs, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Changes announced earlier this month to the boundaries for a South Downs National Park mean a stadium coach park at Falmer no longer falls within the proposed park.

I think in planning terms it's not the best decision - but you guys really need the new stadium, so I'm glad you've got it. I do wish there had been a brownfield site in the existing settlement though which could have been used...

It's the only viable option really. However, I've always been a bit amused about us building on an area of outstanding natural beauty. It's a muddy ruined field next to a duel carrriageway!

Thats great news! Could never understand as to why there was any objection. There is nothing in Falmer!

Okay that seems fair enough, I'm just surprised there was no derelict industrial site in the town or summat like that. Not to bang on but my dissertation is railing against the building of out-of-town stadia (even if I accept that in this case it was the best practical option)

Unless we tore down a retail park as revenge...

You mean I'll never get the comedy aspect of a trip to the Withdean again? Thats a shame, it was my first ever away trip. How we laughed...
Seriously, though, well done, and get on with it.......
