Yes, but Scargill stole money a la Hatton, fucked the miners more than Maggie really. At least she wasn't clandestine about it! think you'll find he didn't and won the libel case Cheers for that Eoin! I wouldn't know these things, I was 4 at the start of the Miners' Strike And very cute I was too, if I may say so...!

Cheers for that Eoin! I wouldn't know these things, I was 4 at the start of the Miners' Strike And very cute I was too, if I may say so...! I could further argue that he fucked our coal industry. He's a marginalised politician out of touch with popular politics, losing a long and ultimately futile miners strike, splitting the National Union of Miners, and destroying the international competitiveness of deep-mined coal. And the irony of it all is that we will now have to buy natural energy from Russia, from where his nutty beliefs came. The man was a member of the communist party as was his father! Fail to understand why you like him Jules as the way he changed the structure of the NUM, Wales effectively lost it voice and Yorkshire was the daddy!

I didn't say I did like him... just obvious counter to you calling me "Thatcher-lover" ;D Still, it's nice to hear someone talk who knows what he's on about?! Getting luncheon back in a tic...

The unions needed to be sorted out, yes Scargill brought the Heath government to its knees. But to what gain you have to ask yourself!

It's a bit sad when our only female PM had more balls regarding Europe than any male since, isn't it? "Blah blah blah, bring back Thatcher, blah blah, I had that Gazza in the back of my cab once... fat bastard!" I didn't say bring her back; I was just remarking on how pathetic Major, Blair and Brown have been. As Eddie Izzard put it, "Really, Britain needs to be in the driving seat of the European car - or the passenger seat, that's pretty good too, 'cause then you have a nice view and don't have to drive. At the moment, we're stood at the traffic lights going, 'I'll just clean your windows for ya'." And just for the sake of quoting Rik Mayall... EIN VOLK! EIN REICH! EIN EURO!

But to what gain you have to ask yourself! maybe, but you must remember num was only a couple of months from winning, only for the nottingham pits going back to work, on the promise they wouldnt be shut (which they were a few years later and when miners went on strike had no support left), thatcher would have been out of government! kinnock wasnt much better, afraid of scargills support, he hung him out to dry, which killed the unions as a power and the labour party for more than 10 years! scargill saw what was coming and tried to stop it, only to be vilified by the media, who wanted the unions gone, printers in particular, so he was nearly always on a losing battle. www10.antenna.nl/wise/index.html?http://www10.antenna.nl/wise/379-80/3722.html

vote is on thursday and currently a No vote is looking most likely..... At present, I hope that's the case. We've been told nothing about it, and have heard very little too; I can't stand in favour of something I know nothing about. As such, I'd vote no right now, were I over there. C'mon Ireland - those European bastards screwed you in the Eurovision; now screw their referendum! ;D

I'm still hoping it'll be a 'no' vote. Of course, if it is, I'm sure the EU will just re-hash the document again and keep putting it forward until Ireland "gets it right." The sad thing is, the way most countries are forcing this through is just a taster of the "democracy" I fear will come about if this treaty is ratified

is it too late to apply for an irish passport so i can vote..... Probably! It's kind of ironic really... after all that's gone on between England/the UK and Ireland in the past, we're now depending on them to secure our sovereignty...

tisn't like the old days, when we kicked the shit out of them to secure our sovereignty.....
