I can see that he writes beautifully, there are some gorgeous lines in it that make me smile and want to write down. I think I need to read it again then. My ex boyfriend thought the same as me when he first read it, and he's read it numerous times now and loves it! I'm still reading The Stand - Stephen King. It's a big bugger. What I think is wonderful is that it's such a short novel but it has a lot of impact. Some novels are so long and say nothing. That's the genius of Fitgerald's writing. Love it. I agree. I'm studying it for AS, and whilst everyone around me dislikes it, I'm the only one in the class who seems to have enjoyed it. Like you said earlier, the imagery is perfect. I found myself liking the character of Gatsby, despite the fact he was a "fake" in the end - but the theme of the broken American dream was quite interesting. Can I keep you under my desk for the exam in it Mrs H?

GB '84 by David 'Damned United' Peace. A semi fictional account of the miner's strike and all the politics that accompanied it. Was only 2 quid in HMV instead of 12.99

The curious incident of the dog in the night time - Mark Haddon That's a great book Finally finished The Stand! Loved it. Not sure what to read now. Would that be the Stephen King novel? If so, I recommend Desperation - that's my personal King favourite. Alternatively, Doomsday Book by Connie Willis is a fantastic read, albeit totally unrelated to the above - massively under-appreciated.

A collection of Roald Dahl's short stories Just finished the 'Switch Bitch' compendium and am moving on to 'Ah, Sweet Mystery of Life' Read a few of those as well. 'Switch Bitch' was good, as were 'Skin' and 'Henry Sugar'. I'm currently working my way through methods of line broadening analysis.

Charlie Brooker's 'Dawn Of The Dumb'.
I was in tears laughing for a good ten minutes at one of the pieces on Alan Sugar last night.
